00:00.180 --> 00:02.520
Welcome to this tutorial.

00:02.520 --> 00:07.320
Today we're going to talk about adverbs of place.

00:07.320 --> 00:09.620
Let's get started.

00:09.630 --> 00:18.630
Remember that an adverb is a word or set of words that modifies verbs adjectives or other verbs.

00:18.750 --> 00:29.510
Note that adverbs usually modify verbs telling us how how often when or where something was done.

00:29.580 --> 00:32.480
Have a look at the example over here.

00:32.640 --> 00:35.940
We walked really slowly.

00:35.940 --> 00:40.370
Now the adverb slowly modifies the verb walked.

00:40.740 --> 00:51.310
It tells us how we walked no adverbs of please tell us where something happens.

00:51.310 --> 00:56.290
They do not modify adjectives or other adverbs.

00:56.290 --> 00:59.570
Have a look at the example below.

00:59.630 --> 01:03.120
I'm going back to school in a month.

01:03.190 --> 01:12.620
The adverb of place back modifies the verb going it tells us where we are going.

01:14.150 --> 01:22.130
Remember that adverbs of place are usually pleased after the main verb or after the clause that they

01:22.130 --> 01:23.570
modify.

01:23.570 --> 01:26.020
Have a look at the examples below.

01:27.270 --> 01:40.000
Come in the adverb in modifies the main verb come and in the sentence Helen looked around trying to

01:40.000 --> 01:43.330
find a familiar face in the crowd.

01:43.380 --> 01:57.340
Note that the adverb of place around modifies the main verb looked where Helen looked.

01:57.460 --> 02:05.650
Now the adverbs of place that end in where expressed the idea of location without specifying a specific

02:05.650 --> 02:08.850
location or direction.

02:09.040 --> 02:12.070
Have a look at the example below.

02:12.070 --> 02:15.620
I couldn't find my cat anywhere.

02:15.790 --> 02:25.750
The adverb of please anywhere expresses the idea of location but it does not specify a specific location

02:26.140 --> 02:37.510
or direction and adverbs of please that end in words express movement in a particular direction.

02:37.530 --> 02:40.720
Have a look at the example below.

02:40.800 --> 02:44.740
How a dog likes to walk backwards.

02:44.820 --> 02:50.310
The adverb of please backwards expresses the movement of the dog

02:53.800 --> 03:06.250
and with verbs of movement here means towards or with the speaker and there means a wave from or not

03:06.250 --> 03:07.340
with the speaker.

03:08.250 --> 03:11.370
Have a look at the examples below.

03:11.470 --> 03:14.460
You can hang your coat here.

03:14.560 --> 03:25.490
The adverb of place here tells us that you are standing near the hanger and in the sentence and you

03:25.490 --> 03:28.250
can put your shoes there.

03:28.310 --> 03:38.120
The adverb of place there tells us that you are pointing at the shoes rack you are not standing near

03:38.130 --> 03:42.520
its.

03:42.560 --> 03:51.480
Note that here and there I combined with prepositions to make many common adverbial phrases.

03:51.530 --> 03:55.390
Have a look at the examples below.

03:55.440 --> 04:02.710
Could you come over here over is a preposition in here.

04:02.820 --> 04:03.730
The adverb.

04:04.020 --> 04:10.760
Together they make an adverbial phrase.

04:10.860 --> 04:14.540
What are you doing up there again.

04:14.640 --> 04:17.500
Up is a preposition in there.

04:17.520 --> 04:18.930
The adverb of place

04:22.240 --> 04:31.030
and here and there are placed at the beginning of the sentence and exclamations or when emphasis is

04:31.030 --> 04:32.560
needed.

04:32.620 --> 04:35.920
Note that they are followed by the verb.

04:36.070 --> 04:45.580
If the subject is a noun or by a pronoun if the subject is a pronoun.

04:45.580 --> 04:48.670
Have a look at the example below.

04:48.670 --> 04:58.580
Here comes the train the adverb of place here is used in the sentence to eat emphasis and note that

04:58.580 --> 05:04.210
is followed by the verb and its subject is train a noun.

05:05.610 --> 05:15.330
And in this sentence There it is note that the adverb of place there is followed by a pronoun which

05:15.330 --> 05:18.600
is also the subject of the sentence.
